Staying Safe During Your Commute With The Cta

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is essential for thousands of commuters. It provides a convenient and efficient way to travel around the city without worrying about parking. The vast network of buses and trains connects to various parts of the neighborhood cities. So it is a commonly opted means of transportation for the city, be it a regular commute to work or even exploring the city.

While the transportation network is popular, a part of the city’s legacy, for one’s well-being and having a better travel experience, it is important to keep certain things in mind to make the journey safer regularly and avoid CTA accidents. Travel risk management is any day, a best practice.

    • Stay aware of your surroundings: Do not use your phone excessively or wear headphones at high volume during your commute. These can hinder your ability to pay attention to your surroundings, listen to important announcements, or identify any potential risks near you. It is also advisable to refrain from reading books, magazines, or newspapers as they can be distracting.
    • Have a grip: When the train is in motion, ensure that you are holding onto something that supports you in case of a fall. Consider holding onto handrails or poles. If you are with a child, make sure you are keeping them close to you. Instruct small children to hold onto you when the transit service stops at a station.
    • Keep your belongings close: Whether commuting to work or on the way to your favorite class, be mindful of where your belongings are, as it helps prepare to deboard. Remember to look back to check if you dropped something. Additionally, keeping your belongings on the seat is not encouraged as it takes up additional space, causing inconvenience.
    • Watch your steps: Whether getting off the train or boarding it, using the staircase, or rushing to catch the next train, pay close attention to where you are headed and if any obstacles can cause a fall. Look for wet floor signs for recently cleaned floors.
    • Mind the gap: At every CTA station, keeping a safe distance between where you are standing on the platform and where the train comes from is essential. Check where you are stepping when boarding or disembarking the train, especially during rush hour. Pay close attention to announcements, and do not push even if you are in a hurry.
    • Keep an eye out for safety concerns: Being vigilant while traveling gives a person enough time to react in an emergency. Recently, unfortunate CTA accidents have been reported that can make it difficult for a regular commuter to feel safe and secure while traveling. If you suspect safety concerns, it is highly advised that you report to authorities immediately and not take steps yourself.

    Tackling Unfortunate Situations

Every commuter wants to have a hassle-free traveling experience. However, some situations are out of one’s control. In the case of CTA accidents involving the bus, acting quickly to secure oneself should be a priority.

    • Call the police and inform them about the incident
    • Document everything you can, including the vehicles involved. Take photos and videos if necessary. Cover everything that you feel is important
    • Seek immediate medical attention regardless of the injury’s extent (collect documents that the healthcare provider has issued)
    • Get in touch with a bus accident attorney to help you file for claims

Getting Back to Using CTA Bus and Trains

Accidents are traumatic. With the CTA being an integral part of everyone who commutes in Chicago, returning to using the same means of transportation can be daunting. Consider updating your family and close friends when you resume using the services. Keep yourself aware of your surroundings. For the initial days, consider requesting the company of a family member to regain confidence. With time, wounds will also heal, paving the way for a return to normalcy.
